ENHANCE YOUR
INFECTION PREVENTION
AND CONTROL SKILLS
WITH a-IPC

In today’s world, the practice of infection prevention and control (IPC) is paramount in safeguarding our communities. Demonstrate your knowledge, competency, and commitment to growing your skills by obtaining your Associate in Infection Prevention and Control (a-IPC).

Elevating your infection prevention and control knowledge, and earning your a-IPC, send a strong message to organizational leaders: “This professional is dedicated to the field and ready for a career in IPC.”

So where do you start?

STEP ONE

UNDERSTAND HOW a-IPC CAN BENEFIT YOU

Earning your a-IPC certification sets you up with foundational IPC knowledge which opens up myriad possibilities on your career journey. Whether you intend to pursue a future in IPC, or simply have IPC duties as part of your current role, a-IPC can help set you apart and ensure you’re ready to tackle infection prevention challenges with confidence.

Approach your infection prevention & control roles, duties or career journey with confidence, competence and credibility.

Improve patient or organizational safety. Certification holders are better prepared to interpret evidence and champion key infection control practices within your organization's facilities.
Support your career growth and compensation. Specialty certification demonstrates advanced knowledge and can lead to greater career opportunities and higher earning potential.
Meet regulatory or job requirements with enhanced knowledge and certification of skills.

Who Offers the Certification?

The Certification Board of Infection Control & Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC®) is the certifying body responsible for the administration of the a-IPC certification, as well as the Certified in Infection Control (CIC®) and Long-Term Care Certification in Infection Prevention (LTC-CIP).

Who Can Help Me Study?

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) is the leading professional association for infection preventionists (IPs). APIC created the APIC Learning System, with versions for a-IPC, CIC and LTC-CIP to help professionals prepare for success on CBIC’s certification exams.

STEP TWO

ENHANCE YOUR INFECTION PREVENTION KNOWLEDGE

Build a foundation of IP knowledge and give yourself the best chance to succeed on your a-IPC exam with the APIC Learning System for a-IPC. You’ll get a customized study plan based on your unique knowledge and skill gaps, all while learning everything you’ll need to know for exam day.

You'll learn topics including:

  • Identification of Infectious Disease Processes
  • Surveillance and Outbreaks
  • The Infection Prevention Program
  • Occupational Health
  • Preventing HAIs Linked to Equipment & Environment

The interactive online system is accessible from your computer, tablet or mobile device, and includes a variety of online study tools including flashcards, quizzes, and a post-test with questions simulating the real exam. Regardless of how you prefer to study, APIC has a learning option that will best suit your schedule and needs.

STEP THREE

EARN YOUR a-IPC

Now it’s time to apply all you’ve learned! First, fill out your a-IPC exam application. The a-IPC is open to all who are interested, and applying takes just minutes.

Next, schedule your exam. You can choose to take your a-IPC exam in one of two ways: in-person at a Prometric testing center, or at home via ProProctor, both of which are administered by CBIC’s testing partner Prometric. Both methods use the same application, and require the $310 exam fee.

Regardless of the exam method you choose, you’ll want to make sure you’re familiar with the requirements and processes before your exam day.
